Mobile Technology Pilot

IMG_7538SEATTLE, WA – SEIU Healthcare NW Training Partnership announces Connected Care, a pilot program measuring how technology can elevate the role of Home Care Aides (HCAs). By connecting HCAs to their Consumer’s health care team, we hope to show improved health and reduced health costs.

In this six-week pilot project, HCAs will use Observe & Report Technology in preventing conditions through early detection and supporting their Consumer in identifying appropriate care for treatment.

“With the ability to connect to other professionals, Home Care Aides can activate a team to solve problems quickly and efficiently, thus avoiding Emergency Room visits and other triage services that are unnecessary for the client and expensive for the taxpayer,” -Bill Moss, Assistant Secretary at Washington State DSHS

A monitoring app may provide additional benefits, including:

  • Medication compliance
  • Fall prevention
  • Diet and Exercise support

“This particular project is appealing because of its interface:  it only requires that HCAs ask simple questions and make simple observations that don’t require specialized training. As many of us in the field of Home Care know, our Home Care Aides have a wealth of useful information about the health and well-being of Consumers that frequently go unrecognized in the health care system. This potential for early intervention offers the possibility to save enormous costs and prevent unnecessary suffering for Consumers—many of whom have challenges with transportation and other impediments to seeking treatment outside of their own home. We applaud the Training Partnership for taking the initiative to bring this technology to our caregivers and the community of clients we serve.” -Sean Walsh, Operations Manager at Full Life Care

“The use of technology to connect HCAs with care managers and RNs will greatly improve the quality of care for Consumers by improving communication between and amongst the caregiving team and enable timely, proactive caregiving. Seamless communication tools has a triple aim: improved health, improved cost, and improved Consumer experience.” -Dew-Anne Langcaon CEO and co-founder of iHealthHome.

This announcement serves as stage one of the pilot program. Future stages will extend the communications through these health care apps to the participating Consumers’ Primary Care Provider (PCP) team. We will evaluate the impact that a tech-empowered Home Care Aide has on the health and quality care of a Consumer when they are able to more broadly communicate important changes in conditions to Consumers’ PCPs in real-time.
